STA is proud to share that John Schilp, Boy Scout Troop #235, North Plainfield has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout Project, John constructed two recreational-sized Bocce Ball Courts at his church, Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish in Middlesex. Over a five month period, John cleaned out the unused area, removed existing rocks, leveled, dug out, and constructed two 6 ft by 40 ft courts, with wooden raised borders and astroturf playing surfaces.
John hopes that these new Bocce Ball Courts will bring the people of the parish together, motivate youth, family, singles, and older parishioner teams to be formed, and encourage fellowship.
The family would like to add a special thank you to Fr. Mike who came to a work day and assisted John during construction and Mr. Dama for his support in recommending John as an Eagle Scout candidate for his Board of Review. The pastor of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish will be arranging a special blessing of the courts later in the spring.
