Aquinas Celebration Day Kicks Off Year with Prayer, Excitement

It was the start of what we hope to be the most memorable school year yet at STA. The much-anticipated Aquinas Celebration Day was held on Friday, September 22 and featured a day of celebrating the many great people and programs that make STA what it is.

In the morning, the school community gathered for mass in the gym-transformed-into-church. Principal Harry Ziegler called on students to be a part of making this the best year in Aquinas history. The mass served as a reminder that all good things begin with prayer.

In the afternoon, the gym was transformed back into an athletic haven for one of the biggest and most invigorated pep rallies that the school has ever seen. Led by Student Council Athletic Chairpersons Trevor Lavelle ’24 and Jack Valenzuela ‘25, the student body collectively celebrated the athletic achievements of individuals and teams who are competing this fall. The event was highlighted by the marching band’s time warp-themed halftime performance, cheerleading routines, gymnastics team acrobatics, and a heart pounding inter-grade competition of Dragon Tag, the first in what will be a yearlong series of competition between grades. The day concluded with time for the whole student body to browse over 30 extracurricular clubs at a club fair while they ate and socialized outside on a beautiful fall day.

The exciting day was an opportunity for students to re-engage with STA traditions and build anticipation for the multitude of events both old and new that await them this school year.
