STA Announces Chelsea Mattis '10 as Head Softball Coach

St. Thomas Aquinas High School is proud to announce the hiring of Chelsea Mattis (née Curcio) ’10 as the new Head Softball Coach.

A proud alumna of the program, Mattis returns to STA with a deep connection to Trojan Softball and a proven record of excellence both on and off the field. As a student-athlete, she was a standout catcher and infielder, earning All-Division, All-Area, and All-Conference honors. During her four-year career, the Trojans captured four division titles, the NJSIAA Non-Public South A Sectional Championship, and the 2010 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament title.

Following graduation, Mattis continued her softball career at the Division I level at George Washington University, contributing across the infield and behind the plate. She remains ninth all-time in program history in fielding percentage, a testament to her consistency and skill.

Her coaching background includes experience with several respected travel programs, including Jersey Intensity, Central Jersey Lightning, and Challenge U. Most recently, Mattis returned to St. Thomas Aquinas in 2025 as an Assistant Coach, helping lead the Trojans to a Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Championship and Team of the Year honors.

“My goal is to create a program where athletes feel empowered, supported, and proud of the effort they bring each day,” said Mattis. “We’ll center our work on strong fundamentals, accountability, and a deep sense of team connection. I’m dedicated to honoring and advancing the program’s legacy of success, and I’m excited to guide this team into its next chapter.”
