Campus Ministry Hosts Annual Advent Overnight Retreat: “The Journey Home”

In early December, 30 students participated in St. Thomas Aquinas High School’s annual Campus Ministry overnight Advent Retreat. This year’s retreat, themed “The Journey Home,” invited students to reflect on the twofold meaning of Advent: preparing ourselves and responding to God’s call as we journey toward Heaven, and preparing our hearts for the continuing Incarnation of Christ, which we celebrate throughout the Christmas season.

Throughout the retreat, students heard meaningful talks and personal testimonies centered on growing in faith, love, and trust in God. Presenters challenged students to consider what it means to take the first step toward God, whether through deepening their faith or receiving forgiveness and beginning anew. These reflections encouraged students to open their hearts more fully to God’s presence in their lives.

Following each talk, students engaged in small group discussions with their peers, providing space for deeper reflection, honest conversation, and shared faith experiences. These moments fostered connection and allowed students to support one another on their individual spiritual journeys.

The retreat also emphasized community building through large and small group activities, including games such as Four Corners and Ninja Tag, creating an atmosphere of joy, laughter, and fellowship that strengthened the bonds within the group.

At the heart of the retreat was prayer and sacramental life. Students participated in a Eucharistic Holy Hour of Adoration on Friday evening, with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The retreat concluded on Saturday with the celebration of Mass, sending students forth renewed in faith and purpose.

Overall, the Advent Retreat was a great success, as the STA Campus Ministry community grew in faith, fellowship, and fun while preparing their hearts for the coming of Christ at Christmas.
