A Season for the Record Books: Aquinas Gymnastics Claims the NJSIAA State Championship

The Aquinas Gymnastics Team has once again etched its name into New Jersey history with a flawless finish to an unforgettable season. On Thursday, November 6, the Trojans delivered a dominant performance at Brick Memorial High School to secure the NJSIAA Gymnastics Team Championship, posting a spectacular team score of 114.025. This score not only clinched the title but also set a new state record, surpassing the previous mark held by Bishop Ahr and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Saint John Vianney followed closely in second place with a 113.1, but Aquinas proved unstoppable from start to finish.

This championship meet showcased excellence in every rotation. On vault, Supriyha Moore powered to a 9.70, followed by strong scores from Shelby Reno (9.625) and Sofia Bertocci (9.425). The team stayed consistent on bars, where Moore led again with a 9.475, supported by smooth routines from Alexa Cerchio (9.225) and Bertocci (9.075). The beam lineup brought poise and precision as Bertocci posted a 9.70, with Reno adding a 9.55 and Quinlan Kulakis scoring a steady 9.35. The floor squad closed with standout performances by Moore (9.825), Reno (9.625), and Bertocci (9.45). Additional official scores from the Meet Director will be added as they become available.

Beyond the championship meet, this season’s achievements tell a powerful story of consistency, discipline, and tradition. With this victory, St. Thomas Aquinas now holds the New Jersey record for the most gymnastics team state titles, an astounding eleven in total. The program’s legacy of excellence has been shaped in large part by Coach Brant Lutska, who has guided teams to eight of those eleven titles with expert leadership and a commitment to helping athletes grow in both skill and character.

This year’s team finishes with an extraordinary list of honors: Undefeated Red Division Champion, GMC Conference Champion, Cougar Classic Champion, NJSIAA Gymnastics Sectional B Team Champion, and now the NJSIAA Gymnastics Team Champion. Each title reflects countless hours of training, teamwork, and the unwavering spirit that defines Aquinas Athletics.

The excitement continues this weekend as our individual qualifiers prepare for the Meet of Champions. Representing Aquinas will be Sofia Bertocci (All Around), Alexa Cerchio (All Around), Supriyha Moore (All Around), Olivia Nigro (Vault), and Shelby Reno (All Around). These athletes will compete on Saturday, November 8 at 9 a.m. at Brick Memorial High School, carrying the momentum of a historic season with them.
