STA Announces Bearfield as Head Football Coach

St. Thomas Aquinas High School announced today the hiring of Shamir Bearfield as head football coach. Bearfield, who currently serves as the defensive coordinator at St. Peter’s Prep, will join STA full-time and lead the football program.

“As a coach and educator, I believe in cultivating a Christ-centered environment that emphasizes service, integrity and moral leadership,” said Bearfield. “I am excited about the opportunity to integrate faith into the St. Thomas Aquinas football program — helping students deepen their relationship with God while learning the virtues of humility, perseverance and brotherhood.”

Bearfield’s coaching experience includes positions at Lehigh University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Seton Hall Prep. He played high school football at St. Peter's Prep, before moving on to the collegiate level playing for Temple University and William & Mary.

“St. Thomas Aquinas has a proud and winning football tradition,” said Kevin Sacco, STA president. “Coach Bearfield brings the leadership, character and vision needed to build on that foundation. We are confident he will elevate our program while guiding our students to grow in faith, academics and athletics.”

Bearfield replaces Jonathan Germano, who recently declined his appointment as head coach.
