Hoops for Heart Returns, Raising Over $4,500 for the American Heart Association

On Thursday, March 13, St. Thomas Aquinas High School reignited a beloved tradition—Hoops for Heart—with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of Trojan spirit.

Organized by student leaders Emily Pittari, Carley Schwarz, and Emma Figueiredo, the event brought together students across all grade levels to form teams and compete in a bracketed basketball tournament. The gym was filled with excitement and friendly competition, as team after team battled for the championship title.

The final match came down to students vs. teachers, and this year’s student champions—Anwar Witherspoon, Dylan Gowdy, Connor Bailey, Albion Ahmetaj, Tyler Montgomery, and Rion Ahmetaj '24—secured the win. While the scoreboard told one story, the day’s success was measured in generosity and unity. Together, the event raised over $4,500 for the American Heart Association.

Special thanks to the chaperones, spectators, and every student who participated. We are proud of our community for coming together in the spirit of service and fun. Plans are already in motion for next year’s tournament and, rumor has it, a few alumni might be lacing up to join the teacher squad!
