St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Edison, has appointed Jonathan Germano, a Catholic educator and assistant coach at Bergen Catholic High School with an impressive football career at the high school and college level, as its head football coach.
“In the spirit of our goal to provide continuous growth and excellence across every aspect of our school community, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Coach Germano,” said Kevin Sacco, St. Thomas Aquinas president. “He will inspire our players to give their all and infuse our football program with the core Catholic values and beliefs that shape our Catholic Identity.”
Coach Germano, who currently serves as quarterback and passing game coordinator at Bergen Catholic High School, has enjoyed a highly successful high school and college football career.
His football career is one of enormous personal achievements. As a student at Bergen Catholic, Germano, who played quarterback, was named New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year in 2012. At John Hopkins University, where Germano graduated with a B.S. in Public Health Studies, he held the record for most passing yards in a season.
In addition to his coaching experience at Bergen Catholic, Germano has served as assistant coach at Syracuse University and the University of Nebraska.
Coach Germano is meeting with football players to outline his vision for the team. He will also meet with parents to discuss his plans.
“We know Coach Germano will not only develop a winning program but will inspire our players to reach their greatest personal potential,” Sacco said. “At the foundation of this program will be the bedrock of our Catholic faith.”
