After two delays and a change of venue, the Trojan softball team finally went head-to-head with the Metuchen Bulldogs under the lights at Woodbridge High School. The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead, which went unanswered by the Trojans until the fifth inning. The Trojan offense came alive with two on base and a line drive triple to right field by Liz Negron, driving in Hayley Wieczerzak and Mary Kate Murray to bring the Trojans up by a run. Liz Negron added one more on a steal of home plate on a passed ball.
Pitching by Hayley Wieczerzak and Trojan defense kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the sixth and and the Trojans were able to extend their lead in the sixth to 5-1 and a 1-2-3 top of the seventh sealed the team's most recent GMC championship.
Hayley Wieczerzak pitched an amazing game, striking out 16 batters and allowing only 2 hits over 7 innings. Melody Webb was 2 for 3 and Liz Negron was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. This was a real team effort with Hayley Wieczerzak, MK Murray, Liz Negron, Hailey Krainski, and Kamerin Collado each scoring a run.
