Posted on 09/19/2022
Bright and early on a Friday morning, the excitement and anticipation for the annual We Are STA (WASTA) Day could be felt throughout the building. The day would be filled with a variety of small group and large group activities designed to make the freshman Class of 2026 feel welcomed and help them break the ice in their new school home.

To start off the day, the freshmen were shown some tips and tricks to make the most of the upcoming school year in a fast-paced “survival guide” video produced by this year’s Student Council with the help of advisor Mr. Mike Kowalczyk. Music and dancing. Then they rocked out to some of STA students’ favorite songs such as “Big House,” “Trading Our Sorrows,” “Living on a Prayer,” and “God is a Good God,” all performed by the school musicians under the direction of Mr. Joseph Cullinan ’02.

The fun didn’t end in the gym. Students got a chance to explore the building with a QR code scavenger hunt that helped them find important locations and people. And in small groups, upperclassmen led the newest STA students in icebreakers and intriguing “getting to know you” activities.

The day was punctuated by boisterous cheers of “We Are STA” and “STAHS in here!”, led by members of the Student Council. The fun-filled day of events concluded with a heart pounding game of Dragon Tag. It’s safe to say that everyone involved left energized and with smiles on their faces.

WASTA Day was a great start to what promises to be a great year!
