Sports Updates for the Week of October 4

The fall season is more than halfway over and the STA teams are still on fire!

The volleyball team is still on top of the GMC standings as they move to 16-1 with wins against Piscataway 2-0, New Brunswick 2-0, and South Brunswick 2-0. Olivia Alicante added 36 kills for the week while Danielle Suter put up 44 assists and 21 aces.

The girls tennis teamed went 4-1 against South Plainfield. Jessica Kubiak won her second singles match 6-1, 6-2, Alexa Quintanilla won her third singles match 6-0, 6-1, Sara Asdhir and Dhvani Parikh won their first doubles match 6-3, 10-5 in a tiebreaker, and Eunice Mbawa and Rachel DeMesa won their second doubles match 6-3, 6-3.

The gymnastics team moved 5-0 with a 106.45-102.475 against Old Bridge. Nina Sangiuliano took first on bars and floor exercise.

The girls soccer team defeated Carteret 4-0 on its senior night. Goals were scored by Katie Gleason (2), Sophia Giudo, and Jinelle Negri. Alessandra Socio had 14 saves on goal.

And finally, the football sits at the top of the division and conference as it remains un-scored-against after a 51-0 win over Belvidere. Sherrod Hudson led the team with 112 rushing yards along with Jayden Young's 128 passing yards. Two touchdowns were scored by Jonathan Wyatt on passes from Jayden Young, two by Joel Marelis, one by Kendall Jordan, one by Sharief Guinyard, and one by Sherrod Hudson.
