Video Production and Broadcast Journalism
Bringing Stories to Life, One Broadcast at a Time
At St. Thomas Aquinas, our Video Production Program isn’t just about learning how to use a camera, it’s about mastering the art of storytelling. Whether students are on-air as anchors, directing behind the scenes, or producing content in post-production, they gain hands-on experience that prepares them for careers in broadcast journalism, filmmaking, and digital media.
The STA Studio Experience
- Real-World Newsroom Environment: Our video production room mirrors a broadcast studio, with a custom news desk, green screen, teleprompters, and live-editing software that allow students to produce high-quality content.
- Live & Pre-Recorded Broadcasts: Students plan, script, film, and edit original content for our student-run newscast, providing timely updates on school events, sports, and community news.
- Professional-Grade Equipment & Industry Support: Thanks to generous donations and industry connections, our studio continues to grow with high-quality lighting, camera equipment, and a set designed with the help of a professional who has built sets for Netflix, NBC, and HBO.
- Hands-On Learning & Leadership Opportunities: Students rotate through roles such as director, producer, camera operator, and technical crew, ensuring they develop both creative and technical expertise.
Preparing Students for the Future
Our Video Production Program is more than an elective, it’s a pathway to college programs, media careers, and digital content creation. With an emphasis on storytelling, critical thinking, and technical skill, students graduate with experience that gives them a competitive edge in today’s fast-paced media landscape.
