STA’s Law Pathway introduces students to the study and practice of law, with an emphasis on legal reasoning, analysis, advocacy and the principles that shape the American legal system. Distinct from criminal justice, this pathway focuses on law itself, giving students the opportunity to examine areas such as jurisprudence, contracts and torts, constitutional law and other legal disciplines while developing skills in critical thinking, research, writing and argumentation.

Through case analysis, legal writing, classroom discussion and exposure to the way attorneys approach complex questions, students learn to evaluate issues from multiple perspectives, construct evidence-based arguments and communicate their positions effectively. Beginning in Fall 2027, STA will further expand the pathway with a Mock Trial program, giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge through simulated courtroom proceedings, case preparation and advocacy.

For students considering careers as attorneys or pursuing fields in government, public policy, business or other law-related professions, the Law Pathway provides an early opportunity to experience the type of thinking and analysis required in the study of law.
